100 Guys Giver 110% for Northumberland in support local charities

Direct impact. That was the theme of the night at the inaugural meeting of the new charity group 100 Guys Giver 110% for Northumberland on February 13, 2018 at the Lions Club of Cobourg Community Centre. Nearly 100 members and guest gathered to hear the “pitch” by three local charities; Habitat For Humanity NorthumberlandFare Share Food Bank and Rebound Child & Youth Services Northumberland. Each organization took about five minutes to talk about why they need community support and how a donation it would help their organizations achieve their goals.

Upon completion of the presentations the members of the group took a private-ballot vote on which organization would receive a donation of over $5,000.  All three organizations are very deserving of our community’s support, and those that weren’t chosen, can reapply to be part of the donation process again in the future.

“We’re ecstatic about the results tonight” says co-organizer Steve Clarke. “I was really impressed with the engagement/enthusiasm from our members and we took our first steps to making a direct impact in the community”

The Northumberland chapter of the group was spearheaded by local business leaders, Stephen ClarkeDrew MacklinRon Clow and Brian Read

100 Guys Giver 110% for Northumberland, a new type of charitable group that has been springing up around North America. These groups aspire to have at least 100 members whose members give a small amount of money which is then donated to a local charity.

This idea is building on the groundwork by the original group in the area, The Northumberland Chapter of 100 Women Who Care, also known as 100 Women With Heart. The concept is simple yet powerful. In both “clubs” members commit to donating $50 per event (or $200 per year) and one hour of their time, once every three months to support a targeted charity initiative.
